We have two of these azalea bushes; they're both only about 2 feet high. We just planted them last year, so I was surprised when flowers popped up! Wheee!

I don't remember what this is called! The leaves are kind of fuzzy. Anyone recognize it?

So, we're back in Savannah for the yearly Legends of Golf thing--for which Eric does video editing and I take the occasional photo or shoot some occasional video. As some of you might already know, I love it here & would move in a heartbeat. It's sooooo beautiful. Here's some pics. The big sizes, if you're interested, are on my Flickr page.

A Poll: Name the Author or the Source

"Quotation, n: The act of repeating erroneously the words of another." --Ambrose Bierce, "The Devil's Dictionary"

I MEANT TO ADD NO GOOGLING! And, yes, I ended up with two of one quotation!

Poll #1385787 Name the Author or the Source
Open to: All, detailed results viewable to: All

"Cogito, ergo sum." ("I think; therefore I am.")

“Sex without love is an empty experience, but, as empty experiences go, it's one of the best.”

"When you're born you get a ticket to the freak show. When you're born in America, you get a front row seat. "

"This above all: to thine own self be true, and it must follow, as the night the day, thou canst not then be false to any man."

"Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the War Room."

"I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived."

"Much madness is divinest sense to a discerning eye; much sense the starkest madness."

"The unexamined life is not worth living."

"Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former."

"This above all: to thine own self be true, and it must follow, as the night the day, thou canst not then be false to any man."

"Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference."

"You men are all alike! Seven or eight quick ones and then you're out with the boys to boast and brag."

"Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things."

“I refuse to join any club that would have me as a member.”

"I have a new philosophy. I'm only going to dread one day at a time. "

I find the works of German artist Gregor Schneider interesting...provocative, mysterious and--in the case of his dead bodies series--disturbing. I just saw a good documentary about him on Ovation.

What I wouldn't give for a large sock with horse manure in it!
Get back in the car, you smirking slut!
What do think I am, some kind of chump? They're black for God's sake. They probably came from defective oysters.
Oh for Pete's sake, he's fleeing the interview!
Son, you got a panty on your head.
Colonics for everyone! ... You dumbasses--I'm a mental patient! I'm *supposed* to act out!
He vould have an enormous schwanzschtücker.
Sedagive?!

Do you know what those movies are?

From Discover magazine:
Oxford University psychiatrists have found that playing the computer game Tetris shortly after a traumatic event interferes with the brain's ability to form visuospatial memories of the trauma and reduces unpleasant flashbacks.

How the hell did they acquire this data? Did they advertise in the newspaper? "Wanted: individuals who were recently robbed, raped, assaulted, witness to a murder or otherwise traumatized. Must know how to play Tetris."

Maybe some of you will remember my previous posts about notices of fecal coliform and chlorine in our water supply?

Well, a few days ago, everyone in the neighborhood got this certified letter:

Notification to Abutters Under the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act

In accordance with the second paragraph of Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 131, Section 40, you are hereby notified of the following:

A. The name of the applicant is_____________(local authority of some sort)

B. The applicant has filed a Notice of Intent with the Conservation Commission for the municipality of _________________(our subsection of the city)

The scope of the project includes the excavation and off-Site disposal of soil with concentrations of lead and arsenic that exceed the Massachusetts Contingency Plan (MCP) Method 1 cleanup standards.

...

The site is an old mill. Good thing we don't drink the water.

I'm going to fix the extremely annoying busted fan in my MacBook Pro. Warning to MacBook owners: apparently this is a common defect. The noise sounds like a radio controlled plane in your lap.

If I don't check in later today, it means I've busted the computer.

WOOHOO! ALL FIXED--NO MORE NOISY FAN!
Thank you, ifixit.com, for detailed illustrated instructions. Made it very easy to replace the fan. Got the part from them, too.

I was very surprised to find a Northern Cardinals in Hawaii. This guy serenaded us every morning. He seemed to have an unusually large repertoire of songs.

Everyone--two footed, four, feathered and amphibian--is back home. The cat is on the rug, cleaning himself. The frogs are frogging around their tank; the bird is sitting on her mirror perch, the doggy is sitting with a toy in her mouth and Eric is back in the basement where he belongs.

...it's from this is why you're fat

...which i found by going to Late Night with Jimmy Fallon (the picture on the website, btw, is the sloppy joe doughnut, not the bacon doughnut, in the above pic)

...where i saw justin timberlake, whom i've come to adore ever since i found out he was so funny (via SNL) & ok he's cute, too

...which led me to hulu.com and THIS:

ENJOY, my lovelies!!
